Chelsea Flower Show and Wedding Flowers

Chelsea Flower Show and Wedding Flowers

Unless you've been hibernating this week, you'll have noticed that the ever popular Chelsea Flower Show is currently open!  The world's most prestigious flower show is this week (24-28th May 2016) at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.  Sadly, I'm unable to get there this year (I adore beautiful flowers, sweet scents and ingenious creativity!) but I couldn't resist having a little something to do with it!  Hence today's post 'Chelsea Flower Show and Wedding Flowers'!

Just recently I met the lovely Ellen & Izy from Abbey Flowers.  They.  Are. Amazing.  I love flowers at a wedding - it can completely change the look and feel of a room and the more flowers the better in my opinion!

NOTE: At the end of this article 'Chelsea Flower Show and Wedding Flowers' there is a fantastic Wedding Flowers Checklist I have created for you to download and take with you to your florists meeting!

Ellen & Izy have given you their top tips when you are choosing your wedding flowers:

  1. Set aside a budget for your wedding flowers and then decide on how many bouquets, arrangements and buttonholes you want to have.  Your florist will need to know this budget when advising you on the designs and types of flowers used.
  2. Before deciding 100% on a particular flower, check to see if it's in season on your wedding day!  Speak to your florist about the flowers you like and what your wedding date is.  Choosing seasonal flowers provides better flower quality plus it's good value for money!
  3. Face to face consultations with florists works best, as you can communicate your ideas more easily and look at photographs together.  Your florist will then have a clearer vision of your likes and dislikes and will help you create the perfect arrangements for your special day.
  4. Choose an amazing wedding photographer to capture the beauty of the wedding flowers.  It is much more difficult than it looks to photograph flowers, we've tried!
  5. It may sound strange but think about your height and body shape when choosing your bridal bouquets.  If you are tall and athletic then a shower bouquet, that loosely drapes in front of your dress will usually look better than a compact hand-tied bouquet.  If you are very petite then a small hand-tied bouquet may well look best (a shower bouquet may swamp you and hide too much detail of your dress).
  6. To stand out from the crowd, go for an 'enchanted' look...Picture this...Tall potted willow trees lining the aisle entwined with trailing amaranth and flowers of rich jewel colours to make your midsummer night's dream wedding a reality.  With an overload of candles and twinkling fairy lights to start your magical evening and the delicate scent of the flowers drawing you in..

Ok.  I'm so at that wedding!  A photographers dream!

Happy wedding planning!
